Swallow (Hirundo neoxena)

Ranges over most of Australia except N.T and the far north west of Australia.

These birds live on insects mostly caught on the wing. They build mud nests usually on a vertical surface (side of building, cave, cliff, culvert, bridge etc). Breeds usually August to December. Four eggs is normal but can be 5 or 6.

The only time they can cause concern is if they build their nests in buildings where their droppings can be a health hazard or simply a mess to be constantly cleaned up. Control is the same as for pigeons.

Ultrasonic frequencies produced by the Ultrasonic Swallow Repeller are highly effective on swallows but are inconsistant on other birds. A high level of control can be obtained indoors, more so inside metal structures. However, out in the open the effective range is reduced as ultrasonic frequencies dissapate quickly.
