Aircraft Bird Strike Damage
Wild turkey strikes at Dulles (IAD) rwy 12/30. The pilot indicated
that the birds were on the edge of the runway during their departure
and when the aircraft reached 80 knots the birds flew across the
runway. One struck the wind shield and the other struck the engine
on the right side and bounced off the fuselage. The aircraft,
N622BR, a Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet Series 200 was taken
to the hangar for further evaluation.
Shortly before 1900 PST, a Horizon Airlines (QXEA) DHC-8-401Q, flight
377, was involved in a bird strike on descent into the Medford,
OR, airport. The captain sustained serious head and facial injuries
and was transported to an area hospital.
