Viticulture bird control
The area under grape vine production, particularly wine grapes, has increased dramatically over the last 10 years. Many traditional farmers who have expanded into wine grapes have discovered another problem they may not have had previously - Bird control!
There would hardly be a vineyard in Australia or New Zealand which doesn't suffer losses to birds. The traditional shotgun is not up to the job. Netting is extremely expensive, both to buy and maintain and also to put up and take off again. Nets are often ineffective against silvereyes (wax-eyes). Spray coverage is also adversely affected by nets. Restricted airflow due to nets may contribute to higher incidence of disease. Electronic bird control has come a long way in the last ten years and results are very impressive.
Virtually all commercially significant pest bird species can now be effectively controlled with the newest high tech frequencies and sounds at a fraction of the cost of netting and without the huge labour input of netting. With many hundreds of vineyards already having great success with Bird Gard, results and effectiveness of crop protection are not in question.
