Starling Repeller is intended to defend smaller areas such as back yards, carports, ceiling spaces, dairies, machinery sheds and anywhere where people are close by.

Starlings are a non-native introduced species that are masters of adapting to their environment. Their natural food source is ground based insects but in Australia and New Zealand they have become the plague of garden and commercially grown fruit and vines. They are skilled at finding nooks and crannies to nest in any man-made structures such as inside ceiling spaces, sheds and even in engine compartments of cars, aircraft and machinery. Once they are on a good thing they stick to it and that initial nest will turn into many.

The solitary starling nest may appear cute at first but they keep coming back along with their offspring to breed again at the same successful location and they will do that year after year, their population can simply explode if left unchecked. The problem here is not just the build up and mess caused by their guano, but also the potential fire hazard from their nests, the risk of bird mites infesting the building and the potential of disease from their guano.

Despite their intelligence Starlings are quite vulnerable to numerous different sounds, and in any environment where people are close by the Starling Repeller uses actual Starling’s distress calls to repel them. A series of 8 sounds are played in a random and intermittent manner so to keep the birds confused and fearful of the sounds, it is important to never play a predictable pattern of sounds at Starlings.

Like most Bird Gard devices the Starling Repeller can be powered by 240 house power or a 12v battery and optional solar panels are available. The device has a light sensor that can be programmed to day mode to automatically turn the device on at first light and off again at last or you can use the Night only or 24 hour modes.
