The Pro Plus 4 consists of the Pro Plus X sound generator with two standard speakers and one PA speaker. This unit is used specifically for Silver-Eye control.
The device emits the ESC (Electronic Scarecrow) and FFS (Flower Fruit Scarer) harassment sounds which are both effective against Silver-Eyes, as is the additional Silver-Eye distress call.
The ESC harassment sound is also effective on several other species, such as Crows, Starlings, and Rosellas.
The PA speaker emits a Butcher Bird call which is a ferocious predator of Silver-Eyes. Of course this call is effective against Silver-Eyes, however it also attracts Butcher Birds which terrifies small birds like Silver-Eyes. This combination of harassment sounds, distress call and Butcher Bird call guarantees success.
The harassment sounds should be played all the time (dawn to dusk). The birds do not get used to them. The Silver-Eyes distress call may be played from time to time to put a bit of fear into the birds and keep them on edge.
If towards season’s end the birds start to make a few hungry tentative trips into the crop (which can happen if they get hungry enough), you then turn the Butcher Bird sound ON. This usually has an instant effect and the Silver-Eyes will retreat to the bush for protection against the threat of the Butcher Bird.
It is best to use the distress call and the Butcher Bird call sparingly and intelligently for best results. And always use on full volume.
